The Bushidokan club is the senior club at Garsfontein. Sensei Anton Pienaar (Sandan) is the instructor at this dojo and is schooled in the traditional art of Kawaishi Ju Jitsu, but he also teaches competition Ju Jitsu to those students interested in competing in Ju Jitsu as a sport.
Bushidokan can literally be translated as "The school of the way of the warrior". This refers to the way of the Samurai. Ju Jitsu was one of the arts practiced by the Samurai, and was often used to disable, disarm or even kill an opponent in battle. Even though this may sound quite violent, Ju Jitsu is meant to be performed with finesse and effortlessness rather than with violent power filled moves. We can often find the "way" of the warrior in Ju Jitsu when we start to appreciate the concepts behind the techniques of Ju Jitsu.
At the Bushidokan dojo you will also have an introduction to some traditional Japanese weapons as well as some more modern weapons such as guns and knives.
