I received my Shodan in 1998 and my Nidan in 2000. In 1999 I took over a club and renamed it as Bushidokan, "School for the Way of the Warrior".

Up to the age of 16 I participated in kumite at competitions, although I was more interested in the self-defence category of the JuJitsu. I participated in self-defence thereafter until 2002. I was chosen to represent my province on regular occasions from 1988 to 2002. In 2002 I received my colours in self defence and participated in the black belt category in the team division. I finished second in the individual. In 2002 I was elected team manager for the North Gauteng Sport JuJitsu team.
